Remote Medical Billing Specialist
Position Overview
Laboratory Express Diagnostics is seeking an experienced Medical Billing Specialist to join our Billing team in a 100% remote capacity. You will be essential to our revenue cycle operations, ensuring accurate claim processing, timely reimbursement, and excellent financial performance while working from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and submit medical claims to insurance companies and payers
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to services
- Review claims for accuracy, completeness, and coding compliance
- Follow up on unpaid claims and account receivables
- Manage claim denials, rejections, and appeals processes
- Research and resolve billing discrepancies and payment issues
- Post payments, adjustments, and denials in billing system
- Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status and issues
- Generate billing reports and track key performance metrics
- Maintain knowledge of payer policies and billing regulations
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and billing standards
- Assist with patient billing inquiries and payment arrangements
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred
- 2+ years of medical billing experience, preferably in laboratory or healthcare setting
- Knowledge of medical billing processes and insurance claim submission
- Understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems
- Experience with medical billing software and practice management systems
- Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance requirements
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Reliable high-speed internet connection
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or similar certification
- Experience with laboratory billing and testing codes
- Knowledge of electronic claims submission (EDI, clearinghouses)
- Experience with Epic, Cerner, or other major billing systems
- Understanding of revenue cycle management
- Previous remote work experience
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish)
